I've just learned that Jane "Red" Hanks (Foster/Petach), last female Flying Tiger, has passed away. Here are some photos of her and her husband, CNAC pilot (among other things) Fletcher Hanks, from the 2005 AVG Reunion.

Apparently a CW-21 (or CW-21B) was tested at Wright Field, but so far I haven't been able to find any info/data concerning any such test. WAS a CW actually tested there, and if so, which model and does anybody have any data from the test?

Just a dumb question: If I happen to find a US Navy airplane in my back yard in Florida or anywhere else in the world, would I be able to claim it as mine or
would Uncle Sam's Men-in-White be coming down the street to claim it as theirs? As I understand it, US Governement property remains always so unless
disposed of officially. If that is the case for the USA, why should it be any different for any other country (Finland, for example)? BW-372 officially
belongs to Finland...

Clayton Bissell was the officer that Claire Chennault, the Flying Tigers, and AVG buffs over the years loved to hate. More than anything else, it seems, it was Bissell's arrogance that discouraged AVG veterans from signing on with the US Army in China in July 1942. Afterward, as commander of the 10th Air Force in India, he made Chennault's life miserable.

I was directed to this site for the information on the Piper Cub used during WWII. I wanted to share these two photos of J-2 Piper Cub S/N 1319 that the US captured form the Germans. My PapaGeorge (grandfather) is the one who flew the J-2 back to US airfields. He can be seen in the first image propped up in front. The second image has the serial number 1319 on the tail. Interesting story in the Pilot newspaper about the bonds between China's Hunan province and the state of North Carolina, recently cemented by the gift of wine bottles bearing the emblem of the Flying Tigers--not that of the American Volunteer Group, I suspect, but of the 14th Air Force.
