Found this image on the WW2 Aircraft forum which shows a variety of aircraft at NAS Miami in 1943(ish). I count 12 F2A-3s discernable in the top right corner of the image . It's a really atmospheric shot. Thought you'd all like to see.

War diaries of Finnish Brewster Squadrons now online

The Finnish National Archives Service has really started to digitize their more rare material to the Net. The material now online includes day by day "war diaries" of Lentolaivue 24 and also monthly reports. Flight or lentue is the smallest unit with daily war diaries. Naturally these all are in Finnish but those who can read them can get much out of the text or help others.

Belgian Buffalo's on Martinique

Hi all

I thought some many posts ago, there was a photo on the forum with
Belgian/French Aircraft on Martinique (after delivery).

Did I just imagine it or was it posted (can't find it).

I know there is one in the Buffalo in Action book, but the one (thought) I saw
on here was larger.

Is there a larger version?

Where does BW-372 belong?

Just a dumb question: If I happen to find a US Navy airplane in my back yard in Florida or anywhere else in the world, would I be able to claim it as mine or
would Uncle Sam's Men-in-White be coming down the street to claim it as theirs? As I understand it, US Governement property remains always so unless
disposed of officially. If that is the case for the USA, why should it be any different for any other country (Finland, for example)? BW-372 officially
belongs to Finland...

The Oct 09 edition of "Flight Journal" has an article entitled "Where the Buffalo Roam: Buffalo Hunter Bags Six" which quotes extensively from Geoff Fisken. The article contains nothing particularly new but it's interesting that it presents a much more positive slant on the Buffalo's performance than most other references.

Brewster XF2A

I would like to copy the Xf2a after an old model construction plan. In addition I am searching some information.

According to some plans this airplane is equipped with one " formation light" (above) and one " running light - formation flying" (down) equipped. Perhaps does someone have closer information about the appearance of the lights and/or was it standardized parts?

I've seen a few pictures of Buffaloes in Luftwaffe colours and used as trainers stationed in France.

The captions, in a book, stated that the Buffaloes were from still crated Belgian Airforce planes found at the docks. The Luftwaffe rated the Buffalo as unsuitable for ariel combat but had possibilities as a good solo trainer.

On question is, are these Buffaloes more likely to be ex-805 Squadron aircraft from Crete??

If not, what did the Luftwaffe do with the...

I've been a fan of the Buffalo for a few decades now, so when the X-box 360 game "Battlestations Midway", by EDIOS (Hungary) was found to have the Buffalo in it, I just have to go and buy the game.

However, the Buffalo in this game only fires the wing guns but does have the power problems, very annoyingly evident when trying to climb to intercept incominng divebombers, in the Midway mission, authentically reproduced. Markings were for VMF 3 and even has the Felix the...

The Brewster plate is one of the hundred in a Finnish identification manual I found from the main library of Finnish Defence University (Finnish: Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulu). The list of aeroplane types and some photos suggest this was printed in Spring 1943 just after the Bf 109s arrived to Finland.
